KIAC offers and supports local community arts education through outreach programs, courses, and workshops that are developed and implemented to meet the broad range of community interests.

Current Courses

 

Intro to Monotype & Image Transfer with Charley Young
7-9 pm Wednesday, May 16 & 23 in the KIAC classroom
$35 supplies included *pre-registration required

Learn the basic technique of frottage to create hand-made monotype prints. Use textures like string, wood and everyday objects to develop unique layered images with ink on paper.
Learn image transfer techniques involving the use of wintergreen oil to transfer chosen images onto paper and light fabric.

 

Painting with Acrylic: Light and Atmosphere with instructor Mary Dolman
7:00-9:30pm Tuesday April 24th and May 1st & 8th
$75 supplies included *pre-registration required

Explore the use of acrylic mediums and transparent washes to create depth and atmosphere. Learn techniques to create light with texture, and mix colour to bring out the vibrancy of light and shadow. This course is open to painters at all stages of development.

 

Lunch Hour Yoga with Cara Clark
Mondays, Tuesdays & Fridays 12 – 1pm

$8 drop-in fee or 6 Classes for $36

All levels of experience welcome. Come when you can, leave when you have to! Classes are tailored to the needs of the participants. Bring your own yoga mat.

Zumba with Katie Pearse - classes cancelled on April 25 & 30, May 2, 7, 9 & 14 resuming May 16.

Get ready to Ditch the workout and join the party! Zumba is a Latin inspired fitness workout that is taking the nation by storm.  It is an energetic workout, suitable for everyone, and best of all it's fun!  Come try it out.  All you need is running shoes, comfortable clothes and a water bottle.

 

Life Drawing
7-9pm on the 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month
In the 2D Studio at the Yukon School of Visual Arts
$5 Drop-in fee

Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a relaxed evening of drawing from a live model. Classes will commence with a brief demonstration and instruction for anyone interested. Drawing Boards and basic drawing tools will be provided, paper available for purchase.


Painting Drop-in
Saturday 1pm - 4pm in the KIAC Classroom (enter through the ODD Gallery)
$5 drop-in fee for materials

Saturday Painting Drop-in has started up again and welcomes adults of all ages! Inspire and be inspired by other artists. Bring your own ideas and painting surfaces. Paints, brushes, easels and drawing materials will be supplied. 

 

Piano Lessons with “Barnacle” Bob Hilliard
Sundays 1:30-3:30 beginning January 21
8 1/2 hour lessons

Learn to play jazz, pop, rock or classical piano with a combination of classical training and playing by ear. The improvisational skills and theory learned in these classes can be applied to any instrument.

 

Music Lessons with Kristen Poenn
Mondays & Tuesdays 4:15-6:45
8 week session

New SOVA student Kristen Poenn is a classically trained pianist with a BA in music, honours in piano performance, and has been a private piano, violin and music theory teacher for the past 6 years. Kristen is offering private 30 min lessons in all levels of piano or beginner violin.
