Yukon Riverside Arts Festival
Artists may apply to four categories: Workshop Artist, Installation Artist, Interactive Artist, and Art Fair Participant. It is possible to apply for more than one category—see details below.
Workshop Artists may apply to instruct a two, three, or four-hour hands-on workshop dedicated to an artistic medium or technique. Workshops will be scheduled during the daytime on Saturday and Sunday. In previous years, our workshop series included basswood carving, mosaic coasters, plein air painting, nalbinding, beading, pendant carving, and much more. We also welcome workshop proposals for our Kids’ Tent.
Installation Artists will create a public artwork for display during the Festival weekend. In the past, some installations have been static, while others have been ongoing creations which are completed by the end of the weekend. Please note: if you would like to create an installation outside of the riverside Festival grounds, you will be required to obtain any necessary permissions or permits. Artists are responsible for de-installation of their work, which must be completed by the Tuesday morning after the festival..
Interactive Artists will have scheduled times for projects/presentations. Artists may apply for one of three time allotments for their project: two hours, four hours, and six hours. On the application, please indicate your second choice for a time allotment in the case that scheduling will not permit your first choice. Please apply to this category if you would like to present a demonstration, intervention/relational art, or performance which actively involves and engages the audience.
Art Fair Participants sell and promote their work in tents on the Festival grounds. Art Fair participants are responsible for all aspects of selling their work during the Festival weekend. KIAC cannot provide volunteers to sit at your table. If you are applying for this category in addition to the Workshop Artist or Interactive Artist category, you must make arrangements for the times you are away from your table, whether you supply your own helper or close your table. There will be a KIAC table on site to accommodate large credit/debit purchases, but cash transactions should take place at your table.
We have made changes to the Festival in hopes of better serving our artists. We would like to provide you with opportunities to interact and network, participate in Festival events, and receive competitive remuneration for your efforts. Participating artists also receive complimentary breakfast, lunch, and refreshments in our hospitality area.
In addition to the Yukon Riverside Arts Festival, Dawson City hosts many exciting events during Discovery Days weekend, including the Saturday afternoon parade, the Mud Bog Races, and baseball tournament. These beloved community events are worth visiting and hold potential for artistic involvement. We invite you to consider them in your proposals.
The selection committee eagerly awaits your professional, organized and high-quality proposals that will engage and stimulate the creative capacities of our community.
An official call for applications will be made in early 2012.
If you have any questions or concerns about the application, please do not hesitate to contact: Matt Sarty, Yukon Riverside Arts Festival Coordinator – events [at] kiac [dot] ca or 867-993-5005.
